Here is a list of the DVD Releases for the week of February 10 2009:
Nights in Rodanthe
Synopsis:Adrienne Willis, a woman with her life in chaos, retreats to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to tend to a friend’s inn for the weekend. Here she hopes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink the conflicts surrounding her–a wayward husband who has asked to come home, and a teenaged daughter who resents her every decision. Almost as soon as Adrienne gets to Rodanthe, a major storm is forecast and Dr. Paul Flanner arrives. The only guest at the inn, Flanner is not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience. Now, with the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.
Cast: Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Christopher Meloni, Viola Davis, Mae Whitman
Recommendations: Really not for me. But Valentine’s day is coming up and I forgot to get anything for my girlfriend yet.
Miracle at St. Anna
Synopsis:Four soldiers from the army’s Negro 92nd Division find themselves separated from their unit and behind enemy lines. Risking their lives for a country in which they are treated with less respect than the enemy they are fighting, they discover humanity in the small Tuscan village of St. Anna di Stazzema.
Cast: Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alonso, Omar Benson Miller, Pierfrancesco Favino
Recommendations: Seems like some interesting historic perspective. Definitely want to check it.
Synopsis:W. takes viewers through Bush’s eventful life — his struggles and triumphs, how he found both his wife and his faith, and of course the critical days leading up to Bush’s decision to invade Iraq.
Cast: Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Banks, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, Thandie Newton
Recommendations: Now that we are done with Bush, I feel it is time to take a look at his life before the presidency
Synopsis:When a sudden plague of blindness devastates a city, a small group of the afflicted band together to triumphantly overcome the horrific conditions of their imposed quarantine.
Cast: Don McKellar, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, Alice Braga
Recommendations: Interesting concept. Worth a look…no pun intended.
Buy it: Blindness
Synopsis:The two remaining members of the popular soul band, The Real Deal, from the 1970’s, Floyd Henderson, now a retired businessman, and ne’er-do-well, ex-convict, Louis Hinds, take a road trip to the Apollo Theater for a musical tribute to their recently deceased front man, Marcus Hook. As they travel cross country in a series of adventures and misdventures, they air old grievances about thirty year old betrayals and learn the music’s still in them.
Cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Bernie Mac, Sharon Leal, Affion Crockett, P.J. Byrne
Recommendations: Samuel Jackson should stick to a certain quota of movies. I am tired of seeing him play himself over and over again.
