Review: HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU (2009)

This past weekend, I finally decided to watch HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU.
Originally, I was not really excited about, and I honestly didn’t think it was going to be good. But after the movie being number one at the box office, I thought I would give it a chance. Turns out He’s Just Not That Into You was actually pretty good and really entertaining.
The best part of the movie has to be its realistic portrayal of male/female relationship. The movie starts with a cut of different scenes of women comforting other women because the guy they liked didn’t call them back. You hear stuff like “maybe he lost your phone number” or “you’re too emotionally mature for him” (trust me, women really say that to each other), but the one thing that no one ever seems to say is that maybe “He’s not that into you.” And that’s where the movie won me over.
Even though it is a comedy, the movie makes some good points about relationship. If a guy doesn’t call you back, then let it go. Or as Alex (Justing Long) very simply explains, if a guy wants to date you he’ll find a way to get together with you. So true!
He’s Not That Into You is an ensemble film, and while all the stories are interesting, the best one definitely is the one with Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Alex (Justing Long).
And finally, if you are still not convinced, then why not just go and see it because of the incredible cast, which includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, Justin Long, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Busy Philipps, and Drew Barrymore.
And you know what, I will even go as far as saying that guys might enjoy it too. At the very least they’ll be able leave the movie theater and tell their date “Get it now?!”
Being a guy I don’t plan on seeing this in theaters, although wouldn’t mind catching it on TV at some point, I do like corny romantic comedies sometimes. From girls who have read the book, they have said it’s not a great movie, but fun in that type.
I understand, I didn’t even want to see it at first. And plus I don’t think it’s a movie you need to see in theaters to enjoy (they don’t have any big action sequences or anything), so TV will be just fine.
As for the book, I haven’t read it, so I can’t really say anything about that.
It is funny how trailers to movies sometimes make the movie a heck of alot better than it would be. Any other good ones coming out this summer?
