M. Night Shyamalan’s Cast for THE LAST AIRBENDER
I have known for a while that M. Night Shyamalan was bringing the Nickelodeon cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender to the big screen. But it was only recently that the main cast for the movie was announced.
So who will star in M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action THE LAST AIRBENDER?
Noah Ringer, a karate star discovered by Shyamalan during an open casting call, will play the part of Aang, the new Avatar who must save the world from the Fire Nation.
No pictures have yet made their way to the net, so it’s hard to tell if he looks the part.

Nicola Peltz will portray Ang’s friend, Katara, a Waterbender who will help Ang on his quest.
See that’s a problem, because Katara is definitely not Caucasian in the cartoon.

Jackson Rathbone will portray Katara’s brother and Ang’s friend, Sokka.
Again, Sokka is not Caucasian.
At the time of EW‘s article Jesse McCartney was in negotiation to play Ang’s nemesis, Zuko, the Fire Nation’s evil prince. But it has all changed now, since the part has been recast.
UPDATE: Turns out the part of Zuko was given to Dev Patel, check out our article for more information.

In addition, since then, Jessica Jade Andres has been cast as Suki, a Kyoshi warrior from the Earth Kingdom.
I am a huge fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender and have seen the full series. I love the characters and am of course very picky as to who I picture in each part.
I really resent, as well as lots of other Avatar fans, that some of the character’s ethnicities have not been respected.
Also Sokka is my favorite character from Avatar: The Last Airbender. He is the one who brings the light humor to the show and so far, I am not convinced that Jackson Rathbone can do him justice. But then again all that I have seen him in is Twilight (not a great place for him to show his comedy skills obviously).
And finally for those of you who haven’t seen Avatar: The Last Airbender yet, go rent it, I bet you’ll be surprised at how good it is.
So Avatar fans, what do you think of the cast?
