I actually really enjoyed the movie. Yes, I have seen the entire animated series. Yes, the ethnicities are off. Yes, his cast choices were definitely different. But in all honesty, it actually sells.

All those people who went in expecting it to be just like the animation were deluded. Yes there are things that could and should have been done better, but this movie was amazing in its own way. Its hard to turn a t.v series of anything into a movie because there is so much happening along the seasons period that you just can't fit it all into a reasonably timed movie.

M. Night put in what he needed, and I think that the people he casted really did it justice. And for all those who think the personalities were off..? If Aang was a bubbly little boy, the movie would not have been as good. It would have seemed childish. If M. Night spent the whole film having Aang care only about games and have such careless ways the movie would have been boring. It would have just been another movie aimed at kids. THIS was aimed for everyone. If you want childish, then go back to watching the animation.

People should really think about what it takes to be in the position to turn something with such a high fan base into a movie. The pressure is HUGE. Take the Twilight Saga for example. The books were amazing, and then they got turned into movies... Same with Harry Potter. Such excellent reads, yet some of the movies are a waste of time.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. Everyone is different. If you think I'm wrong than thats fine. Flame me if you wish but it's just freedom of speech. Just remember, if you can comment about hating all this, then I can certainly comment about loving it.

Peace out

The actual genders and races of what the elements represent are in Rodney St.Michael's book, Sync My World: Thief's Honor GA SK. (myconnected.webs.com)

Air = Yellow "race" = Males = Scholars.

Water = Small Browns = Females = Shamans.

Earth = Blacks = Lesbian = Social Ubuntu Business Class.

Fire = Whites = Gays = Military, Militant Business Class.

Ether or Metal = Big Browns = Bisexuals = Working Class, Bi-military
(females & bis go together like Katara & Sokka or brown females and males).

Therefore Aang should be Chinese.

Katara should be a Malay like a Filipina.

The Earth Kingdom should be African.

Zuko should be White like Hitler, Alexander the Gay or Gen. Arthur McArthur.

The Fire Nation's army should be like the fiery Sacred Band of Thebes (an ancient elite gay army that Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell troops would be envious of) or the Sturmabteilung, the much-feared homosexual stormtroopers of Hitler.

And the Slumdog Millionaire (casted as Zuko) should be Sokka.

This film is just as messed up as the movie Angels and Demons. The branding of the priests were incorrect.

But anyway, from the guy who gave you the Sixth Sense, which did not portray childhood schizophrenia accurately or anywhere near the real world, what do you expect?

Bisexuals love horror and terror. They also scam people, just like the Wizard of Oz. The old Oz film which is also about the Elements is understandably all-white because they were ignorant back then. People have higher standards now, and realism is a must.

But M.Night, the Wizard of South Asia also has lessons for everyone after conning them:

1) Clearly, when people don't play roles that fit them, everything is messed up. (e.g. "male" clergy in what should be a female realm, forbidding gays in the military which is their territory)

2) Whites are not fit to play the leading roles of Air and Water in the world scene. Leave that to the ASEAN+3 (China, Japan, Korea and South East Asia).

3) Arabs are not necessarily the greatest evil in the world. Occasionally, they float like Ether to the ranks of Water. It is fiery whites that fit the role of Lucifer or Satan.

4) By acquiring objective reviews from leading critics, they have agreed themselves that these are all factual objective realities.

Thus, the Wizard, even if he is a con man, is also an accidental pseudo teacher. Partly, it's called sunyata or "emptiness."

I just saw the movie yesterday. First of all, they pronounced everything wrong. Second, it all seemed rushed. There was no tome for character development at all. Also, the actor playing Iroh was totally wrong. Iroh did not have an accent, his hair was shorter and neat, and he was fat. And I still wish the actor playing Zuko was white, had the ponytail, and his scar showed up better. And Suki wasn't on it at all. I wish they had split up the seasons into two parts each.

I was a bit apprehensive at first with the cast, but I just saw the movie today and I only have one thing to say... FAN-FRIGGIN'-TASTIC!
So the principle cast aren't played by people of Asian decent...you get over that fact almost from the very beginning. Each one of these very talented actors and actress played their parts beautifully. The movie had the same feel, flow, and pace as the show does. Including Sokka's one-liners and overall sense of humor. What amazes me, is Mr. Night actually stayed extremely close to the original storyline/script. Were there differences? Yes, movies are always going to differ in some way from the original source material. But the differences (aside from the stupid race thing that's been beaten like a dead horse...get a life folks, honestly) were minor and matters of slight artistic license. Like costume design...etc. And it's those changes that make the difference, because usually they are in place to add a bit of realism to the movie. So, if you thought the cartoon was impressive...go see it on the big screen!

P.S. - I'm NOT a huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan's work...with the exception of this movie. I will totally be getting this on DVD. :D

I think there shouldn't have been so many Indians in the film. All of the characters should have been Chinese, Korean, Inuit, or Japanese. The only Indian that should have been in the film is Guru Pathik. There shouldnt have been so many Indians in the movie. And obviously the director thought it was okay to cast soooo many Indians as long as there were a few white people in it. It pisses me off. The movie is not Indian inspired at all. I see chinese, Japanese, Korean and Inuit influences not Indian.

I'm a twilight fan, who has seen every episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender(its my favorite tv show of all time!) and is on Team Jasper, I think Jackson Rathbone being casted as Sokka is bullshit. I do think he would make a good one, but I think it would piss every Jasper/Alice fan who will see this movie because Sokka will have some lip action on screen unlike Jasper. Ya, I can already tell, even though I love this show/movie, I won't be liking any parts where Jackson Rathbone(who every time I look at him, my mind automatically thinks of Jasper Whitlock) will be with anyone of the female Gender(besides Nicola of course) who is not Ashley Greene in a romantic way. Gr. =D But besides that, I like the cast. Even if Jesse McCartney won't be playing Zoko. Yes the skin color is a problem, but oh well. Nothing we can do about it.

Jenni - Toph isn't in the movie because this is the FIRST movie in a trilogy. Each movie will be one season. And from as far as I can tell, it is following the story very loyally. I don't see what basic facts they are changing.

The point you mentioned is the thing that bugs me most about the casting. The fact that most of the Asian or dark-skinned actors are Fire Nation. Personally, I think it would be more along the lines of this: Air Nomads: Asian. Water Tribe: Inuit. Earth Kingdom: Asian, Caucasian, and African American. Fire Nation: Asian and Caucasian. As for which Asian nationalities, I'm not positive. All the bending styles are Chinese, I believe. The Fire Nation has some similarities to Japan.

And yes. The tattoo and scar need to be darker.

The casting does bug me a bit. I don't get the girl they cast for Suki...she looks NOTHING like her.

As for Jackson Rathbone...from the interviews I've seen him in, he's a pretty naturally funny guy. He's the only choice I'm actually happy with, because I'm pretty sure he can pull it off. He also was already a fan of Avatar. Dunno which other actors were too.

See, the ethnicity of the actor wouldn't bug me AS MUCH if I thought the actor was a good choice for the character. Jackson is a good choice as far as I'm concerned, I don't know too much about Nikola Peltz or Noah Ringer though. This might sound weird, but I wished that some of the voice actors would play their characters. I mean, Zach Tyler Eisen looks more like Aang than Noah Ringer. Would have to shave that great hair of his though :(. Dante Basco and Mae Whitman could work, though they might be getting up there in age. Jessie Flower...erg...I'd want to say yes, but I'm afraid she's a bit tall. The only ones I can't see would be Greg Baldwin for Iroh and Mark Hamill for Ozai...*blink*

Dante Basco and Mae Whitman could work, though they might be getting up there in age. Jessie Flower…erg…I’d want to say yes, but I’m afraid she’s a bit tall. The only ones I can’t see would be Greg Baldwin for Iroh and Mark Hamill for Ozai…*blink*

She's only about 14 in the cartoon. She's not much older than Aang.

I personally have not seen all seasons of Avatar, regretably. What i did see of it that it was an well done story. M. night, i think, is very hyped up. In my opinion many of his movies fall short and leave something to be desired. I, myself, walked out of the movie theater before " The Village " ended. Luckily this movie has been co written with the creators of Avatar so this may be the saving grace for Avatar. Of course its going to be a group effort when it is not M. Nights creation and someone elses. So far i must say with what i have seen from the final trailers released in the United States and Japan. Personally i think if has been done right it will be a fantastic movie. Even if some of the cast arent up to the peoples standards. Let us hope.

Amen Lmao! My whole entire family is a mix of every single culture. I have Asian cousins, Black cousins, white cousins, middle eastern cousins, African cousins, etc. I have family on every continent , so this casting is in many ways kind of ridiculous. I just think that they want to have it seem just like in Dragon Ball Evolution that they white guy characters can only be the hero ultimately. they do it a lot in America down playing the other races as the hero.

Yeah is there going to be because at the end of season four, Zuko asked " where is my mother? or What happened to my mother?"

yah it is kind of racist because they made all of the bad guys darker than they were in the show and middle eastern. then they made all of the good guys white when they weren't. an there is no asian people except aang so far that i have seen in the trailer. So It is pretty much racist. Everything is portrayed differently. they aren't even going to have Togh in the movie. It is probably going to be bad since they pretty much changed the basic facts of the story.

White actors in a dominantly Asian film hah? This is definately DBE all over again. You thought the insignificance of movies casting people not of a race were over as in black and white films, those days sure as hell ain't over! Hollywood's philosophy of a fantasy is that it doesn't have to be race specific, M. Night Shamalyn who has never directed a frickin' action or fantasy film in his frickin' life not even an asian film has the mind of an old industrial media wench is making a film like this?!?!?! They should have chosen Quentin Tarantino to direct this movie, HELLO he directed Crouching Tiger Frickin' Hidden Dragon! Why choose some inexperienced director with an equally inexperienced cast? BUTCHERY and FLOP combined! This is like what they did with Harry Potter 3 or The Mario Brothers, pure flop! So Jackson Rathborne of twilight GLAMPIRE fame which is a movie based on a major women's fantasy meets a sappy soap opera is acting as a guy with comic relief? Sounds like George Lucas giving us Jar Jar Binks, BIG MISTAKE! The only difference between this upcoming movie and Dragon Ball Evolution is that the director and actors at least had some experience. Rotten Tomatoes as well as Roger and Ebert will definately go all out Cowell on this movie!

This obviously was the introvenious and evil little work of some Green back Yuppies who saw a cash cow in this film. Yeah mainstream let's 'milk that mooovie', ah the butchery and money brained bastards never cease!

Yeah, give them a shot la! I just pray Mr. M. Night doesn't do one of his famous dumbass cameos! Ala Lady In The Water. Bloody ego, at that point I knew the movie tanked big time!

Wait.... I take it back, I hope he does make an appearance as Momo. That would be epic coz he just has to glutonize fruits and STFU!
