RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN Review

Over the weekend, I went to see RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, for two reasons:
1) I actually like Dwayne Johnson, he makes me laugh
2) I was looking for entertainment (nothing that would require me to think too much)
Well, Dwayne Johnson did make me laugh and I guess Race to Witch Mountain was sort of entertaining.
Race to Witch Moutain follows taxi driver Jack Bruno, who picks up two kids, a brother, Seth, and a sister, Sara, who turn out to be aliens. Sara and Seth are here on Earth to bring something back to their planet that is vital for their and Earth’s survival. Unfortunately, the government is not ready to let the kids go back home, they want to study them. So it’s up to Jack Bruno to help them get back.
I hadn’t seen the original Escape to Witch Mountain, so I can’t really compare, but I can tell you what I thought about this one.
The story was ok, nothing original but it does the trick. The cast I thought was pretty good. AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig who play the aliens were pretty good. I especially enjoyed the quirky ways they spoke. Of course, I liked Dwayne Johnson, he was good as the taxi drive/protector of the kids. And finally Carla Gugino also did a great job.
Some of the action scenes were pretty cool, but unfortunately there weren’t that many, so don’t expect an action movie. Because let’s face it, they probably didn’t have the budget to go all out. Actually, one of the visual effects towards the end was pretty weak.
Overall, Race to Witch Mountain wasn’t good enough that it warrants you actually watching it at the movies. I think you can wait for the DVD release. I might have actually enjoyed it more on DVD. That is except if you have children, in which case they might actually enjoy it.
Rating: B-
