Did You Hear About the Morgans? Synopsis: The comedy Did You Hear About the Morgans? follows a highly successful Manhattan couple, Meryl and Paul Morgan (Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant), whose almost-perfect lives have only one notable failure – their dissolving marriage. But the turmoil of their romantic lives is nothing compared to what they are about to experience: they witness a murder and become targets of a contract killer. The Feds, protecting their witnesses, whisk away the Morgans from their beloved New York to a tiny town in Wyoming, and a relationship that was on the rocks threatens to end completely in the Rockies… unless, in their new BlackBerry-free lives, the Morgans can slow down the pace and rekindle the passion.

The makers of Did You Hear About the Morgans? probably would not consider this much of an endorsement, but here it is: It’s not THAT bad. There isn’t too much in the plot that’s aggressively stupid, it produces a few chuckles here and there, and the cast is likable. It’s not worth recommending, mind you, unless you’re at the theater and you’ve seen everything else and a screening of this starts in 10 minutes — and even then you should consider re-watching something else — but it doesn’t sink to the level of badness that you’d expect, given the premise. It’s a mere mediocrity, snatched from the jaws of awfulness. Read More

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MORGANS? delivers exactly what you’d expect from a Hugh Grant/ Sarah Jessica Parker rom-com. He plays his normal, befuddled self, while she pretty much plays Samantha from SEX & THE CITY, although this is decidedly more family friendly. It’s all very formulaic, and doesn’t hold any twists or surprises, but it’s pleasant enough, thanks mostly to the always dependable Grant. Read More.

Did You Hear About the Morgans?” is about as stereotypical as a stereotypical romantic comedy can get: Male and female lead have problem; a whacky circumstance forces them together; in the end, they realize how much they love each other. Throw in some fish-out-of-water locales and dialogue that borders on the abusively mundane, and you’ve got romantic-comedy gold! Read More.

So here’s a question for the Feds, whose famed witness protection program takes care of Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker, the couple on the edge of divorce in the (note the use of ironic quote marks) ” romantic comedy” “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” What about the rest of us? We could have used some protection here too. Grant has never been less charming and Parker never less fashionable or more grating than they are as Paul and Meryl Morgan, a hot-shot Manhattan couple split apart by Paul’s one-nighter in L.A. I’ve got news for them — infidelity is the least of their problems. Read More
