IT’S COMPLICATED Movie Spoiler Recap
Sometime, you have to go see a movie but you want to know how it’s going to end for one reason or another. This is why we are introducing the first ever series movie spoiler recap on Daemon’s Movies. FYI, This is meant to be a trial run. If you like it, please let us know by commenting. If enough people like it, we will start doing more of these.
In “It’s Complicated”, Janey Adler (Meryl Streep) is a divorcee with a successful gourmet market and restaurant, three kids, and no sex life. A decade after her divorce, she still sees a therapist, hangs out with single girls, and hasn’t recovered from being left for a younger woman.
Janey has achieved professional success and is about to create the gourmet kitchen she always wanted. Her architect (Steve Martin) is recently divorced and looking for someone special. After visiting a plastic surgeon for eye wrinkles, Janey runs into her ex-husband, Jake (Alec Baldwin). Jake looks harried as his young wife’s five year-old son acts rambunctious in the elevator.
Janey and Jake next meet at the hotel they are staying at for their son’s college graduation. The kids are busy, and Jake and Janey wind up at the bar at the hotel, where they have too many drinks and wind up in bed together.
Jake is delighted to reignite their romance and have a break from his demanding younger wife, who is constantly nagging him and scheduling him to go to fertility clinics so she can have another child. Janey is devastated she has slept with her ex-husband, but her friends urge her to continue to be “the other woman”. Even her therapist encourages her to explore their new relationship. Of course, after another night of great sex with Jake, her architect calls to ask her out. Jake convinces her to decline the invitation, and she instead agrees to make Jake his favorite dinner the following night.
Janey goes to a lot of trouble and Jake never shows for the date. Annoyed, Janey dumps Jake and invites the architect to a family graduation party. Janey knows the evening will be difficult and she gets high before her date even arrives.
At the party Janey, her architect, and her ex-husband get high in the bathroom. They return to the dance floor where Janey dances a little too intimately with Jake before leaving him on the dance floor to return to her date. Unfortunately, Jake’s young wife sees the dance and recognizes it may be more than innocent.
After the party, Janey and her date go to her restaurant where they seductively make warm chocolate croissants together. Janey assures him that her other romance is over.
The next day, the whole family is at Janey’s house where Jake announces he left his wife, and wangles an invitation to stay at the house. Janey is in the bedroom talking to the architect by web camera on the internet when they take a break to go the bathroom. Janey leaves the computer on and in comes Jake, who decides to display his naked body to entice Janey for when she reenters the bedroom. Of course, the web camera is on and the architect sees more than he wants. Janey comes out of the bathroom and screams so all the kids pile into the room to see what is wrong. Jake tries to win Janey back by laying all his cards on the table and declaring his love, but Janey refuses to take him back.
Later, she talks to her children, who are confused, and explains she is not taking Jake back. She follows-up with the architect and he continues to work on her project. At the end of the movie, it is pouring rain and they are about to break ground on her house renovation. The architect says it is good luck to break ground in the rain, and the viewer senses that her relationship with the architect may be reignited.
It’s Complicated was just released to theaters yesterday Christmas Day 2009. IT’S COMPLICATED stars Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and is directed by Nancy Meyers. You can watch the trailer below.
