INCEPTION Panel (WonderCon 2010)
Warner Bros had a surprise for us at WonderCon 2010, they not only gave us a look at a brand new trailer for INCEPTION, but director/writer/producer Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas were there to answer a few questions about the film as well.
After watching the trailer (which looks unbelievably good), we learned a few things including the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio plays a character who is the best thought thief. He seems to be working with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character and hires Ellen Page’s character.
In the trailer, we see Leonardo DiCaprio offer his service to protect Ken Watanabe’s character from thought stealers.
Christopher Nolan mentioned that Inception is more of a personal film to him and that after The Dark Knight it was an opportunity to make a film unlike what we have ever seen before. He had always been fascinated by dreams and he had been looking for a way to explore that for many years. He describes Inception as a heist movie. It’s about a group of individuals that can access dreams and through them steal thoughts. Christopher Nolan spent many months talking about all the aspects of of the film with Leonardo DiCaprio, however when he was writing the script he didn’t have any specific actors in mind because he feels that’s limiting.
An audience member asked about Christopher Nolan’s predilection of having films with very twisted male characters and wondered if we might soon see a female twisted character. Well, it seems we won’t have to wait long because Christopher Nolan hinted that Marion Cotillard’s character is quite a “complicated individual.”
All I can say is that Inception is on my must-see list for this year and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll check it out as well on July 16, 2010.
