PHISH 3D Opens On Friday April 30

Musical group Phish has recorded one of the first 3D concert movies, meant to simulate the experience of actually being present at a live concert.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, at early screenings in Brooklyn, theater staff threw glow sticks into the crowd, as concert staff did the same in the film. Filming took three days and covered three different sets from the band at “Festival 8″ in California during October 2009.

The 3D film doesn’t quite simulate a real concert experience, but it does provide a close facsimile with the added benefits of cheap ticket prices, comfy seats, and air conditioning. Phish 3D is the latest in a popular run of 3D movies storming box offices in 2010.

Phish 3D opens nationwide on April 30. The nationwide run will last for only one week.
