Movie Mania: WOMEN IN TROUBLE and PETER AND VANDY
For this week’s movie mania I watched a couple of films that had been on my list for quite some time. So I’ll let you read on to find out what I thought about it.
Women in Trouble (2009) – This movie was not what I expected it to be, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing because I enjoyed it a lot. It had a lot of funny moments and I found the way the story was set up pretty interesting. On top of that the movie has a great cast (pretty much all females) which made it that much better.
Synopsis: One crazy day in the lives of 10 wildly different women — including a porn star, psychiatrist, flight attendant, housewife, masseuse and others — forms the basis of this indie comedy from writer-director Sebastian Gutierrez. Starring Carla Gugino as adult film actress Elektra Luxx, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Adrianne Palicki, Connie Britton, Garcelle Beauvais, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Elizabeth Berkley.
Peter and Vandy (2008) – This wasn’t as good as I expected it to be. At least I didn’t enjoy it as much as I wish I did. It was very slow and felt a little long (even though the film is only 80 minutes). There are a lot of movies about deteriorating relationships, unfortunately this one wasn’t one of my favorites. That said it wasn’t terrible either, there were some good moments and I do enjoy Jason Ritter, so that helped. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but if it sounds like your type of film you can always give it a shot.
Synopsis: Contrasting their now-deteriorating relationship with the sunnier days of blossoming romance, this drama examines all the moments that add up to — for better or worse — a life lived together by Peter (Jason Ritter) and Vandy (Jess Weixler). Jay DiPietro directs this film adaptation of his acclaimed play that explores the beginning, middle and possible end of a love affair. Tracie Thoms and Noah Bean co-star.
