Steven Spielberg has been tapped to direct the film adaptation of the 1982 novel “War Horse“, according to The Entertainment Weekly . Spielberg will team with producers Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest to direct the film for Disney and DreamWorks
Spielberg has not directed a movie in nearly two years since tackling “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. His new project is an adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel “War Horse” which was released in Great Britain in 1982. The novel followed the story of a boy and his horse throughout World War I and has already been adapted for the London stage.
Spielberg and the production team of Kennedy, Marshall, and Guest will begin shooting on the film in late summer or early fall with the release date set for August 10, 2011. Screenwriters Lee Hall and Richard Curtis adapted the novel for feature films. DreamWorks will lead the production of the movie with Disney Studios handling the release.
Not a movie for Disney, Christmas, or kids. Saw the special preview and had nightmares all night. Too graphic and depressing for kids. Who wants to see animal abuse, piles of dead horses, one tragedy after another, dead soldiers being over run with rats, and all that horror especially on Christmas? Not a typical feelgood “boy and his horse” movie. Don’t let your kids see this unless you want them to have the same nightmares I had. Several people left the theater during one particular graphic sceen…I wish I was one of them. Shot beautifully, well acted, scored well…a typical Spielberg movie but more disturbing.
