“Kick-Ass” Matthew Vaughn Will Direct X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Movie
After a weekend of negotiations, it is now being reported that “Kick-Ass” director Matthew Vaughn has signed on with Twentieth Century Fox to direct the upcoming “X-Men: First Class“. The movie has also received a release date of June 3, 2011 now that a director has been signed.
Vaughn, who most recently directed the comedy “Kick-Ass”, had been in negotiations all weekend to join the X-Men project as the director, but both sides were stuck on concerns over who would maintain creative control. Bryan Singer, Lauren Schuler Donner, and Simon Kinberg will remain on board as the producers of the film. The signing of Vaughn to direct comes as a surprise given he turned down the chance to direct “X-Men: The Last Stand” in 2005.
The newest installment in the X-Men series follows Cyclops, Jean Grey, and other X-Men in their younger years. It is unknown at this point if Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine. The background of Wolverine has already been covered in the movie “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
