Kristen Stewart, star of “The Twilight Saga” and “The Runaways”, will take on the role of Marylou in the big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s iconic novel, “On the Road“, according to MTV News.
Stewart announced her involvement during an interview with USA Today on May 4th. Said Stewart, “I am very much attached to a movie that has been trying to get made forever..I am about to play Marylou in On the Road. So that’s a big deal.”
Marylou is the wife of main character Dean Moriarity, a drifter who road trips across the United States with his buddy, Sal Paradise. Early reports claim “Eragon” star Garrett Hedlund has been tapped to play Moriarity. Sam Riley, of “Control” fame, will portray Paradise.
Walter Salles will direct based on a script written by Jose Rivera. Salles and Rivera previously worked together on 2004’s “The Motorcycle Diaries”. “On the Road” will be released in 2011.
