DARK CRYSTAL Sequel Announced
The Henson Co. announced in a press release today that it is producing a sequel to 1982’s “Dark Crystal” entitled “Power of the Dark Crystal“. Brothers Peter and Michael Spierig are attached to direct, while Henson Co. and Ambience Entertainment (a division of Omnilab Media) produce the effort.
Variety confirms the announcement, stating that the sequel is set hundreds of years into the future when the realm again falls under darkness. The film follows a mysterious girl made of fire and her Gelfling accomplice in a quest to steal a fragment of the Dark Crystal to re-ignite the dying sun.
Omnilab Media, mostly known for their work with “Where the Wild Things Are” and “The Pacific”, are working on the graphics for the film, which is set to feature a combination of CGI and Henson-created puppets all shot in 3D. Henson Co. is tentatively eyeing a 2012 or 2013 release.
