Judge Dredd Remake is a Go

Judge Dredd, the famous comic book character, will be returning to the big screen in a $45 million dollar film, according to THR. The movie is being financed by Reliance Big Pictures, IM Global, and DNA Films.
Filming, which will take place in Johannesburg is set to begin place this year and will be directed by Pete Travis. Alex Garland wrote the script for the film.
The deal to create a new Judge Dredd film was in works for over 2 years. DNA Films was the lead negotiator with rights-holders John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. A whole host of individuals will be involved in production of the film. Alex Garland, Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich will be producing the film. Jason Kingsley and Chris Kingsley will help co-produce the film.
The film will be about a futuristic city and how Judge Dredd goes about dealing with the darkness of the city. Garland, Macdonald and Reich have previously worked together on the films “Sunshine” and “28 Days Later.”
