J.J. Abrams Heist Movie Finds a Writer

The newest project from J.J. Abrams and Paramount pictures has been snapped up by writer/director Phil Alden Robinson according to the Hollywood Reporter. Robinson is most famous for writing and directing “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner.
The new project from J.J. Abrams is an untitled heist project based on an article published in Wired magazine. The article, entitled “The Untold Story of the World’s Biggest Diamond Heist,” was written by Joshua Davis and told the story of an unprecedented diamond heist that occurred in 2003 in Antwerp, Belgium. The group of Italians involved in the heist got around 10 layers of security to access the vault in the Antwerp Diamond Center.
Robinson will be writing the script for the project, which Paramount acquired the rights to in March 2009. Robinson has previously written another heist film, the 1992 movie “Sneakers”, which he also directed. Robinson is not expected to direct this film at this point in time.
