MACGYVER Movie Getting a Writer

New Line Cinema has tapped Jason Richman to pen the script for their upcoming “MacGyver” movie according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is based upon the hit 1980s ABC series of the same name.
The TV series “MacGyver” became a pop culture icon during its run on ABC from 1985-1992. The show starred Richard Dean Anderson as a clever secret agent capable of concocting impressive gadgets and escape plans with science-inspired trickery. The show’s popularity lead Saturday Night Live to parody it with small skits entitled “MacGruber“. Recently the parody was made into a feature film by Relativity. Richman’s hiring to pen the script for the “MacGyver” movie likely means the movie will have a more straight-laced approach with some humor mixed in.
Richman previously worked on projects like “Black Hawk Down” and “Rush Hour 3“, although his contributions were not credited. He wrote the script for “Bad Company” and worked on a draft of “Beverly Hills Cop 4“.
