Gong Li To Play Helen Hunt Role in Chinese Version of WHAT WOMEN WANT
Actress Gong Li has landed the leading role in the Chinese remake of “What Women Want” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Li nabbed the job from a younger Fan Bingbing who had reportedly joined the cast in March. Li will star alongside Andy Lau in the remake of the hit 2000 film “What Women Want” starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.
Gong Li will play the creative director of a Beijing advertising firm controlled by a male chauvinist, mind-reader played by Lau. Helen Hunt played her role in the US version while Mel Gibson played the character played by Lau. Chen Daming has adapted the script for the Chinese remake of the romantic comedy and believes that Li is the natural choice for the lead role. Daming has previously worked with Lau and Bingbing on other projects but feels that Li brings a fresh face alongside Lau.
Gong Li is one of the most well known Chinese actresses around the globe and also works as a sponsor for cosmetic products aimed at China’s newly ascendant middle-class women. Li can next be seen alongside John Cusack in a World War II thriller “Shanghai“.
