Director Antoine Fuqua has said that he wants an unknown actor to play the lead role in a planned biopic about Tupac Shakur. According to MTV News, Fuqua told British entertainment website Digital Spy that he would like to see a fresh face in the role of Tupac.
The success of other biopics about rappers has led to the production of a film about the life of Tupac Shakur. “Notorious”, the biopic about Biggie Smalls, and last year’s green light for a similar project about Run-DMC has led to a Shakur biopic. Fuqua told Digital Spy that production company Morgan Creek has given him the green light to begin production in September for a biopic about Tupac Shakur who was gunned down in 1996.
Fuqua directed feature hits like “Training Day” and “Brooklyn’s Finest” and is hoping to follow the path set by the producers of “Notorious” who searched the country for a fresh face to play Biggie Smalls. “Notorious” producers eventually settled on Brooklyn rapper Jamal “Gravy” Woolard. There is no title for the upcoming Shakur biopic.
