Jeremy Renner To Be HAWKEYE in THE AVENGERS
Actor Jeremy Renner has almost completed a deal to join the cast of Marvel Studio’s “The Avengers” according to THR. Joss Whedon is directing the big-screen take on the superhero team for Marvel.
Renner would play the role of Hawkeye, the bow and arrow carrying hero who was not initially a member of the super hero team when it was created in the 1960s. Hawkeye became an integral character soon after though when the villain switched sides to join the forces of good.
Renner will join an all star cast for the film that includes Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Don Cheadle as War Machine. The cast could gain another big star if Edward Norton is brought on board to play the role of Hulk, but there is no word yet if this will happen.
Renner was initially considered for the film last fall but was busy at the time with the awards success of the war thriller “The Hurt Locker”. Renner was also rumored to be very interested in two other projects, including “Battleship”.
