FINAL DESTINATION 5 Gets A Director

Long time James Cameron protégé Steven Quale has been tapped to direct “Final Destination 5“. New Line Cinema has hired Quale, who recently worked as the second unit director for “Avatar”, to guide the fifth installment in their horror franchise.
The films of the “Final Destination” franchise all follow a similar plot. Usually a group of characters are involved in a terrible accident and manage to survive, but having cheated death the rest of the film follows each character as they meet their inevitable fate. Generally by the time the fifth installment in a franchise rolls around the story has been played to death, but after the success of the fourth film New Line decided to pursue a fifth film. The fourth film made $182 million worldwide after being made on a $40 million budget.
Quale got his start under Cameron in 1989 as a production assistant on the director’s sci-fi flick “The Abyss”. Quale also worked as the second unit director on “Titanic” and co-directed the filmmaker’s undersea documentary “Aliens of the Deep”.
