MONSTER SQUAD Remake Finds Writers

Paramount Pictures has hired screenwriting duo Mark and Brian Gunn to pen the script for their upcoming “Monster Squad” remake. Paramount has Rob Cohen, who produced the original 1987 film, on board to produce the remake. The original film was directed by Fred Dekker who also co-wrote the script with Shane Black.
The original film followed a group of kids who discover that Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Gill Man and The Mummy are trying to take over the world. Cohen should feel at home dealing with The Mummy having directed “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” for Universal which grossed $389 million worldwide. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, and David Ladd will join Cohen in producing the film.
The Gunn’s, who are cousins, most recently worked a screenplay for New Line Cinema’s sequel to “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” titled “Journey to the Mysterious Island.”
