Wendy Crewson To Play Mary Botha in Upcoming Winnie Mandela Biopic

Veteran actress Wendy Crewson has joined the cast of the upcoming biopic “Winnie.” Crewson will star in the film alongside Terrence Howard and Jennifer Hudson, with Equinoxe and Iron Wood Film set to produce. Darrell Roodt will direct the joint Canadian/South African project.
Crewson will play the role of activist Mary Botha who becomes a social worker in South Africa after witnessing the beating of a young boy at the hands of South African police. Botha befriends Nelson and Winnie Mandela, played by Howard and Hudson, during the country’s battle against apartheid. She becomes the target of constant police harassment including phone tapping and house arrest. The movie will be filmed in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Robbin Island.
Crewson has appeared in a number of well known feature films including “Away From Her,” “A Home at the End of the World,” “The 6th Day,” “Air Force One” and “What Lies Beneath.”
