Elias Koteas Joins Terrence Howard & Jennifer Hudson in WINNIE

Elias Koteas has been cast for a major role in the upcoming biopic about Nelson and Winnie Mandela entitled “Winnie.” The project is a joint South Africa/Canada production that has Darrell Roodt attached to direct the film.
Koteas joins a cast that already includes Terrence Howard (Nelson Mandela), Jennifer Hudson (Winnie Mandela), and Wendy Crewson (pro-Mandela activist). The film follows the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and the rise of the Mandela’s to power. Koteas will play the role of De Vries, a pro-apartheid officer of the state police intent on preventing the success of the apartheid movement. The movie will be shot in three locations across South Africa, in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Robbin Island.
Koteas was most recently seen on the big screen in “The Killer Inside Me,” “Shutter Island,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” His next feature film appearances come in “Let Me In,” a horror film that hits theaters in October, and Universal’s thriller “Dream House.”
