Tom Cruise + Mission Impossible 4 = FAIL?

Paramount Pictures is reportedly reconsidering picking up Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible 4″ based upon the actor’s current film in theaters. The script for the fourth installment in the spy thriller franchise was just turned in, but already executives are nervous after Cruise’s most recent film has failed to deliver early on.
Cruise is currently on the big screen alongside Cameron Diaz in the spy thriller, love story film “Knight and Day.” Despite positive reviews for the film, which opened Wednesday, moviegoers have not been impressed early on. The early results have apparently given Paramount reason to consider killing “MI4″ if audiences aren’t attracted to Cruise’s action hero character.
“Knight and Day” had its release date moved up to midweek to avoid conflict with other films at the box office thought to be more powerful and attractive. Only time will tell what happens. For now, “MI4″ does have director Brad Bird (“The Incredibles”) and producer J.J. Abrams attached to the project.
