DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK Remake With Katie Holmes Gets A Release Date

The upcoming film from Guillermo Del Toro and starring Katie Holmes “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” has been given an official release date from the studio in charge of the project. The film is a remake of the 1973 film and will be released into theaters on January 21, 2011.
Del Toro co-wrote and is producing the project for Disney who will release the film under their Miramax banner. Troy Nixey is directing the film which also stars Guy Pearce, Bailee Madison and Jack Thompson. The film follows a young girl (Madison) who is sent to live with her father (Pearce) and his girlfriend (Holmes). The pair is in the midst of renovating an old mansion and Madison’s character unleashes mysterious creatures who attempt to destroy all of them.
Del Toro made headlines in Hollywood recently after he left the “Hobbit” films project after getting deeply committed. Del Toro had even gone as far as moving his family to New Zealand where filming was going to take place, and left the project just as casting got underway.
