THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE Movie Review

The third Twilight movie, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE has finally been released and since I was able to go to an early screening last night, I thought I would share a few thoughts on it.

First, I need to start by letting you know that I am a fan of Twilight, I have read all the books, which I loved, and seen all the movies, which I really enjoyed. So of course I was really looking forward to this new movie. And now that I have seen it, I can say that I really enjoyed it as well.

So let’s talk about it, what were the best and not so best parts.

First of all, my favorite part of Eclipse were the characters of badies Riley and Victoria.

Newcomer Xavier Samuel, who plays Riley, pretty much stole the show for me, he was so good that I think we better keep an eye out for this one because he might just be the next new hot thing. And how ironic is it that Riley is only a minor character in the book? As for Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays Victoria, she is a great replacement to Rachelle Lefevre, she just had the badass vibe down. I loved her, although I will admit that I might be biased because I am a huge fan of hers in general.

But these two weren’t the only good part of Eclipse, Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper, also really shined in the movie. Not only does he finally get to say something after two movies, he is a pretty cool character and has lots of fun scenes. This actually brings me to the fact that we finally get to see a little more about the Cullens in general this movie, which gave it a good balance. And how could I forget Billy Burke, who plays Charlie, who brings a very welcome comedic relief. You gotta love him!

But now on to the most important part of Eclipse, the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob. Maybe the fact that I knew what was going to happen made the whole thing anti-climactic, but I don’t really have much to say about it except that it was sort of what I expected it to be; nothing more, nothing less.

Don’t get me wrong though, I really enjoyed it, and I thought Taylor Lautner was a lot better in this film, which is definitely a plus. The point is, fans won’t be disappointed, there is some Bella/Edward action and some Bella/Jacob action. Pretty much something to please everyone.

As for the not so best parts, well even though the fight scene had some cool shots, I just wish we had a little more of it. It seemed to go by too fast. But I do have to give them credit from making it look pretty close to what I had in mind while reading the book.

What I thought was totally unnecessary though was the character of Bree Tanner (played by Jodelle Ferland). I just didn’t see the point since she barely said a word and served no purpose at all. Oh and yeah, some of the Volturi make an short appearance, which was not as exciting as their first one in New Moon.

Overall, will the fans be pleased? Yes. Will the haters continue to hate? Probably. But who cares, I had a great time and can’t wait for Breaking Dawn which will be released next year.

Vampires and romance are nothing new, but Twilight gives them enough of a twist to make it interesting and the film delivers enough on that twist to make it far better than its outlying plot makes it sound.
