Judd Apatow is Bringing Back Pee-Wee Herman
Paul Reubens is going to get an opportunity to bring his Pee-Wee Herman character back to the big screen courtesy of Judd Apatow. The film will be developed by Apatow’s Apatow Productions for Universal.
Reubens has resurrected his career since his personal and professional life hit rock bottom in 1991. Reubens was arrested in 1991 for allegedly masturbating publicly in a Florida theater. Recently however Reubens has made several TV appearances and is even heading to Broadway. Apatow caught Reubens’ on stage in Los Angeles as Pee-Wee and decided to develop an action adventure film based upon the character.
Reubens will have a hand in the project as he teams up with Paul Rust to write the script. No director has been set with the film as of yet. Reubens initially developed the character of Pee-Wee Herman over two decades ago with the help of Phil Hartman while the pair were members of the Groundlings comedy troupe.
