THE LITTLE MERMAID To Become a Real Movie

Working Title Films and director Joe Wright have teamed up to develop a live action adaptation of the fairytale “The Little Mermaid.” The story was written by Hans Christian Andersen and was first published in 1837. Abi Morgan, who wrote “Brick Lane,” has written the script for the upcoming film.
Andersen’s fairytale has seen many adaptations during its lifetime, from the stage to the screen. The story even inspired a children’s puppet version at London’s Little Angel Theatre Company. Andersen’s story is that of a young mermaid who decides to give up her life at sea for the love of a human man.
Wright has previously worked with Working Title, developing his first three films with them. Wright’s previous films at Working Title include “Pride & Prejudice,” “Atonement,” and “The Soloist.” Wright currently has the film “Hanna” in post-production with Focus Features. This marks the first time an English language, live action adaptation of Andersen’s tale has been attempted.
