JJ Abrams To Produce Robot Movie “Boilerplate”

Boilerplate

Producer/director JJ Abrams will be producing the upcoming robot period film “Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel.” The film, about a robot in the Victorian Age, will be produced by Abrams through his Bad Robot banner.

The film will be a graphic novel adaptation based upon the story written by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett. In the story the world’s first robot that during the late 19th century and early 20th century was seen around the world fighting alongside Teddy Roosevelt and Lawrence of Arabia, journeying to the South Pole, and eventually disappearing in the chaos of World War I. The idea for the character and storyline was first pitched 11 years ago on a website in an attempt to garner interest in the graphic novel, but was not published until just last year by Abrams Image.

Abrams’ Bad Robot group has two projects currently in the works, an untitled diamond heist film and “Mystery on Fifth Avenue.” The next film to hit theaters from the group will be “Morning Glory,” which hits theaters in November and stars Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams.
