Top 5 Movie Tricks That Would Be Awesome In Real Life

Everyone is out to make a better life for themselves, unless your name is Mel Gibson and in that case, you just want to destroy everything you worked for by saying stupid S#$t over the phone.
So back to everyone pursuing happiness, I have a question for you: Wouldn’t it be cool if some of the tricks or devices that only exist in movies existed in real life? Wouldn’t that make your life better? Or more importantly, wouldn’t that be awesome? Well, if you can’t think of anything off the top of your head, here is my short list of 5 movie tricks that would be awesome in real life:
1) Voice-Over
Let’s be honest, our lives are boring most of the time. The sheer amount of mundane things we do on a daily basis is just ridiculous. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could “enhance” these mundane tasks with a Voice-Over saying out loud some stuff that we are thinking in passing?
Imagine going to get a latte at Starbucks and when you take your first sip, you hear: “And in that moment, Eric realized that he needed to add some sugar (pause) lots of sugar”. Now imagine that the voice saying that phrase is Morgan Freeman. Now how awesome would that be?
2) Score
The closest you get to a musical score in your day to day life is when you have your iPod on at the gym, at work or when you are strolling in the park. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could have a score in places like restaurants, office meetings or even just taking the elevator which would otherwise be inappropriate for iPod listening.
Can you imagine every time you walk into a room, you hear something like the score of the inception trailer, “Mind Heist” by Zach Hemsey. Seriously, that would really improve my day to day. Listen for yourself.
3) Jump Cut
There are some moments that I would just like to skip ahead to. A workout, an hour long office meeting, Avatar (Yes I said it and I will say it again, that movie was an unoriginal piece of film and I want my money back), frankly any kind of 3D Movie (Yes I fraking hate 3D Movies), you name it.
Well let me introduce you to the Jump Cut which is “a cut in film editing in which two sequential shots of the same subject are taken from camera positions that vary only slightly” (Thanks Wikipedia). With a temporal jump cut, you can skip ahead of a scene and be done with it.
So long boring weddings, So long life sucking hours at the gym, so long movie nights where I am forced to watch Seven Samurai (I don’t give a rats’ ass that the movie is a classic, it’s still way too freaking long and you know it). Ah Jump Cut, how I love thee!
4) Slow Motion
Things sometimes happen too fast. Especially great things. Like catching a glass before it falls, or catching the elevator before it closes. These fleeting moments of glory are so quick that we never get to savor them.
Enter slow motion, an effect in film-making whereby time appears to be slowed down ( Yay Wikipedia). With slow motion, all your great moments will be slowed down so that you can enjoy them thoroughly. Personally, I would appreciate a slow-mo when I manage to pass the car that just cut me off on the freeway (In your face, you BMW driving jerk).
5) Flashback
Everyone remembers past events in their own way but nobody remembers them quite like in the movies, especially using the flashback, an interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point (Did I mention how much I love Wikipedia).
Picture this, you just finished dinner and as you are getting up, your loved one says: “Hey it’s your turn to wash the dishes!” Pause. Flashback in which you see that you did the dishes yesterday…Pause… Back to present, you coldly and confidently respond: “I did the dishes yesterday”. Boom, in your face!
