KICK-ASS Blu-Ray Review

One of my favorite movies of the year, KICK-ASS was released on DVD and Blu-ray this week (August 3rd to be exact) and I got my hands on a Blu-ray copy. If you haven’t seen Kick-Ass yet I highly recommend that you check it out. The best way I can describe it is Superbad meets Kill Bill. The story is based on comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr and is about a regular kid named Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) who asks the question “what would happen if a regular person decided to put on a costume and be a real life super hero”? He then goes a step further and does just that, becoming the crime fighter “Kick-Ass”.
Dave soon learns he’s not alone in the real-life super hero community when he meets Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his young, foul mouthed, take no prisoners daughter Hit Girl (played by Chloe Moretz). The three join forces to take on some gangsters and a new villain “Red Mist” (played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Superbad).
I didn’t know what to expect the first time I saw this movie; personally I didn’t think the previews made it look all that great. I finally checked it out because everyone told me how good it was, and they were right. Kick-Ass is best described as balls-out fun. It’s funny, shocking, gruesome, and even serious in parts.
As far as the Blu-ray goes, I feel it’s well worth the money. For starters it’s 3 discs (special features, the Blu-ray version of the feature film, and the digital copy of the feature film). The special features include: Audio Commentary by Matthew Vaughn, The Making of Kick-Ass, A special on the comic book origins of the movie, It’s BD Touch and Metamenue Remote Enabled for iPhones/iPods/iPads interactivity and there is also a BD-Live menu system that allows you to get special content, offers and ringtones. For me this Blu-ray was ahead of the curve just like the film.
What about you? Have you checked out the Kick-Ass Blu-ray yet? If so, leave me a comment and let me know what you thought of it!
You can get your own copy of the Kick-Ass Blu-ray on Amazon.
