Taraji P. Henson To Star In FROM THE ROUGH

Taraji Henson
Actress Taraji P. Henson has signed on to star in the film “From the Rough,” which is inspired by the real life story of Dr. Catana Starks. Starks was the first female to ever coach a men’s team sport in NCAA Division 1 athletics.
Henson will play the lead role of Cassandra Turner, a fictional version of Starks, who starts her career as the coach of a women’s swim team at a historically black college. Turner is eventually given the opportunity to coach the school’s men’s golf team. She is forced to look throughout Europe, Australia, and Asia for players given the scarce number of black players at the college. Her efforts result in a multi-racial team that is very unique to the school. In real life, Starks was the head coach of Tennessee State University’s men’s golf team.
Henson most recently appeared on the big screen in “The Karate Kid,” and can next be seen in the upcoming films “The Good Doctor” and “Larry Crowne.”
