Rooney Mara Cast In Lead Role In “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”
Actress Rooney Mara has been cast in the lead role of Lisabeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” The film is an adaptation of the Stieg Larsson novel of the same title with the book being the first in a trilogy.
Mara won the hearts and minds of Sony and David Fincher in a hotly contested race to land the role of Salander in the upcoming movie. Among the other actresses considered for the role were Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, and Ellen Page; but the studio and Fincher decided to go with the relative newcomer in Mara. The studio needed to find a leading lady quickly as the film is slated to hit theaters on December 21, 2011 and production gets underway next month in Sweden.
Mara’s biggest role to date in her career was as the star of “Nightmare on Elm Street.” Before appearing in that film Mara appeared in indie films such as “Tanner Hall” and “Youth in Revolt.” She already has a working relationship with Fincher having landed a role in his upcoming film about Facebook entitled “The Social Network.”
