“Departed” Writer To Adapt Disney’s “Oblivion”

The Oscar winning writer behind the script of “The Departed,” William Monahan, has been hired by Disney to adapt a sci-fi project for the big screen. Monahan will adapt Joseph Kosinski’s sci-fi work “Oblivion.”
“Oblivion” began as an illustrated novel from Kosinski and Radical Studios. In the story Earth is a desolate place and human beings now live above the surface in the clouds, with alien scavengers roaming the surface. When a lone droid repairman finds a woman on the surface in her crashed spacecraft, the two embark on an adventure.
Aside from his work on “The Departed,” Monahan is also credited with “Edge of Darkness” and “Body of Lies.” He recently finished work on his directorial debut in “London Boulevard.”
