Leonardo DiCaprio & Joaquin Phoenix Getting Close For “Hoover”
Despite rumors to the contrary, Leonardo DiCaprio has been confirmed in the title role in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming biopic “Hoover.” DiCaprio’s involvement had come into question over the last several weeks but “Hoover” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black confirmed that he is still lined up to play the title role in the film.
Other, wilder, rumors have been flying about “Hoover” with the most interesting being that Joaquin Phoenix may be cast as DiCaprio’s onscreen lover, Clyde Tolson. Black had no comment on the possible involvement of Phoenix in the project.
Black is the Oscar winning script writer behind the film “Milk,” and many believe he will approach this biopic in a similar story telling manner to “Milk.” Harvey Milk’s story was told throughout the film with Milk telling his life story to a voice recorder. Black has said that a similar vehicle for the story shouldn’t be expected, but that he would like to tackle Hoover’s life in a way no other has previously done, telling the story from Hoover’s point of view.
