Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep are both hoping to join the cast of the upcoming film “August: Osage County.” The project is an adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize winning play written by Tracy Letts. John Wells is expected to direct the film based upon a script adapted by Letts.

In the story a family is forced to confront its past and present issues after the patriarch of the family passes away. Streep will play the role of the grieving, and drug addicted, matriarch of the family. Roberts will play the eldest daughter in the family facing her own turmoil with a husband who is having an affair.

Roberts last appeared in “Eat Pray Love,” while Streep last appeared in the 2009 comedy “It’s Complicated.”
