Eric Stoltz As The First Marty McFly in BACK TO THE FUTURE
Imagine a pop culture world where Michael J. Fox is not Marty McFly. It almost happened! BACK TO THE FUTURE director Robert Zemeckis gave the role of McFly to Eric Stoltz and was five weeks into production before changing his lead actor.
Zemeckis spoke to executive producer Steven Spielberg when he realized that Stoltz was just not the right fit for the part, and Spielberg agreed. Somehow Zemickis convinced the studio to let him reshoot five weeks of work with a new lead actor.
As we all know, the move was the right one. Back to the Future was released on July 3rd, 1985, grossed $381 million worldwide, and set the stage for two sequels.
The story, along with never before scene footage of Stoltz as Marty can be seen on the Blu-Ray DVD of Back to the Future, which will hit stores on October 26th. In the meantime, here is a video from the DVD discussing it
