Keith Richards To Join Johnny Depp in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES
Remember in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End when Keith Richards made a cameo as Jack Sparrow’s father? Well, Captain Teague is returning in the fourth installment of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES! As a HUGE fan of the Pirates films, I’m PHSYCHED for this reunion.
Johnny Depp has always openly stated that Keith Richards was a huge inspiration for the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, and pushed for Richards to appear in At World’s End. In April, rumors started about Johnny pushing for Richard’s band mate Mick Jagger to make an appearance as a “pirate elder” next to Richards in On Stranger Tides.
There is no confirmation of this casting decision yet, but with Richards and Jagger not seeming to currently be on the best of terms (Richard’s autobiography “Life” doesn’t paint Jagger in the best light) the odds of a Richards/Jagger appearance might be a bit slim. However, the Richards and Jagger are in the talks to reunite for another Stones tour… so who knows?
From a fan standpoint, I think that Jagger and Richards in the same film (even briefly) would be amazing, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
In addition to Johnny Depp and Keith Richard’s return, we’ll see some new faces. Penelope Cruz will play Angelica while Ian McShane has been cast as Blackbeard. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is set for release in 3-D on May 20, 2011.
