Ben Affleck To Direct REPLAY
Now that The Town has hit theaters, Ben Affleck is looking to direct REPLAY, an adaptation of Ken Grimwood’s 1988 fantasy novel.
Replay follows the story of a 45-year-old man who suffers a fatal heart attack while attempting to prevent the murder of a jogger. In a move much like Groundhog Day, the man does not die, but is forced to relive his life over and over beginning at the age of 18.
He uses his knowledge of the future to build his fortune, but ends up dying again at the age of 45. Finally he discovers that he needs to stop the cycle, and falls in love with jogger he attempted to save.
Written by Jason Smilovic (Lucky Number Slevin), Replay would be a move out of Affleck’s comfort zone of crime dramas (Gone Baby Gone; The Town), and present the challenge of directing through different time periods as the film plays out.
There is no news yet as to whether or not Affleck will play the film’s main character, or if he will be brining someone else in for the role.
