James Cameron Signs On For Two Additional AVATAR Films
Fans of the 2009 blockbuster AVATAR will be happy to know that director James Cameron has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox for not one, but TWO sequels to the hit film.
Cameron is set to begin working on the stories early next year, and wants to begin production in late 2011. He’s undecided if he will shoot the sequels back to back, and will make the decision once the scripts are finalized. Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 (tentative titles for the films) will be produced by Cameron and partner Jon Landau for Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment.
Cameron released the following about the premise of the two new Avatar films: “In the second and third films, which will be self-contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc, we will not back off the throttle of Avatar‘s visual and emotional horsepower, and will continue to explore its themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world.”
Cameron is shooting for a tentative December 2014 release date for Avatar 2, and A December 2015 release date for Avatar 3.
