Roland Emmerich Is Ready For Another Alien Invasion In THE ZONE
Director of the 1996 smash hit Independence Day, Roland Emmerich, is ready to return to alien invasion once again.
Emmerich is getting ready to shoot THE ZONE, another one of the ever popular “found footage” films. Cloverfield was the first to kick off the “found footage” trend (The Blair Witch Project was before this style of film became popular!) which has gone on to help the hugely successful Paranormal Activity films.
There are no plot details for The Zone yet, but sources say that it will revolve around an alien invasion and be mostly an unknown cast. Two leads were just cast (no details on that either!); one being a journalist in his 40s or 50s, and the other a black man in his early 20’s who will play camera man.
Emmerich, who is used to working with budgets over $100 million, will only have $5 million for The Zone. Sources say Sony (who hasn’t commented) will distribute the film, with French writer Guillaume Tunzini writing and Locas George producing.
The Zone will begin shooting in mid-November.
