Carey Mulligan Cast As Daisy In GREAT GATSBY
Baz Luhrmann has been in the works with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire on his adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel THE GREAT GATSBY. Today we learned that Luhrmann has cast Carey Mulligan (An Education) as Daisy Buchanan out of a list of actresses that included Scarlett Johansson.
Mulligan apparently discovered the news on the red carpet from The Fashion Council Awards from Luhrmann himself and burst into tears when she was told. Mulligan was nominated for an Oscar last year for her role in An Education.
Luhrmann hasn’t officially committed to The Great Gatsby as his next project, but with this news it most likely will be. The director has been in workshops with Tobey Maguire and Leonardo Dicaprio who are set to star as Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and the story’s narrator Nick Carraway (Maguire).
