French Horror Film MARTYRS Brought To Hollywood

Pascal Laughier’s horror film MARTYRS is going to be released to American audiences. Producers on the remake have hired Daniel Stamm to direct the project which he will create for the American English-language audience.
Stamm directed this summer’s The Last Exorcism, and seems like a good fit for to remake the Martyrs. He is set to direct the next movie in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Night Chronicles.
Martyrs is huge in horror circles, and became a cult classic after it’s 2008 release.
The story follows Lucie and Anna, two orphans that become best friends – until one of them goes on a murdering spree. The girls breakdown may be caused by repressed child abuse; and this theme is one of the main reasons for the film’s success.
There are internet rumors that Kristen Stewart may be starring in the remake, however Stamm laughed them off.
Stamm released the following about Martyrs appeal: “Every time you think you know where it’s going, it goes somewhere else. It plays on things that are familiar — like two friends who can’t be separated, kind of a Forrest Gump and Jenny situation. But then it takes a turn, and in doing so asks interesting questions. ‘If you have a best friend in the world and she goes crazy, how much do you owe this friend to go down with them?’ It’s much more than a horror film.”
