HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS Reaches $125.1M Domestically
In its opening weekend alone, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS has reached $125.1million domestically. This is the highest box office opening for any of the Harry Potter films to date. The runner up would be the 2005 debut of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which debuted with $102.7 million.
Deathly Hallows had about the same size audience as Goblet of Fire and Sorcerer’s Stone (the film that launched the franchise) with around 16 million tickets sold in their opening weekend. Factoring in high admission prices could be the cause of Hallows revenue lead.
Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is now number 6 on the domestic revenue charts for biggest opening weekend, right behind Iron Man 2 which debuted this year at $128.1 million. The number one spot goes to The Dark Knight which brought in $158.4 million.
The franchise finale, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will be released on July 15th, 2011.
