Hulu Plus Cutting Prices in a Bid to Compete with Netflix
In a bid to become more competitive with Netflix, Hulu is cutting the price of their subscription web service. The price for Hulu Plus is being trimmed from its current $9.99/month rate to $7.99/month.
Hulu’s first premium service debuted in June and was designed to compete with other online video giants, namely Netflix. While Netflix also charges $9.99 for their service, Hulu fans were critical of the new Hulu Plus service because it forced viewers to sit through Hulu advertisements. Netflix customers do not have to sit through advertisements while watching their shows.
Hulu’s video portal debuted in October 2007 as a free of charge service backed by Disney, Fox, and NBC Universal. Hulu has met with several setbacks as of late however, the latest being NBC’s decision to provide “Saturday Night Live” episodes to Netflix the day after they air on television.
