Kevin Spacey Will Play RICHARD III In London
Kevin Spacey will reunite with American Beauty director Sam Mendes in Shakespeare’s RICHARD III. Spacey will play the title role next summer at The Old Vic in London. The show opens on June 29, 2011 and tickets go on sale on January 31, 2011.
Mendes says that he is “absolutely delighted” to have the chance to work with Spacey again.
“I am doubly thrilled that he will be leading year three of The Bridge Project. Richard III is a play I love, and a role I think Kevin is born to play,”
Richard III is part of the three-year Bridge Project between The Old Vic, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Mendes’ Neal Street Prods. Also serving as the Old Vic artistic director, Spacey stated: “Sam is one of the finest directors I have had the pleasure to work with and to gain this opportunity is beyond my wildest hopes. I love Sam’s perspective on a role, carving and shaping the actor. With such a remarkable character before me I have a feeling this one is going to be a memorable experience.”
If you’re reading this and you’re in the London area – save your pennies! I’d love to see Spacey play Richard III.
