ZOMBIELAND Director Ruben Fleischer To Helm Warner Bros. GANGSTER SQUAD

Ruben Fleischer

Ruben Fleischer is going to step into the director role for the Warner Bros. drama GANSTER SQUAD. The Zombieland director beat out Scott Copper (Crazy Heart), Jose Padilha (Elite Squad), and Darren Aronofsky for the chance to direct Gangster.

The film is based on the seven-part article written by Paul Lieberman for the Los Angeles Times. The story is set in the 1940s and digs into the story of the LAPD unit the “Gangster Squad” which was created to keep the East Coast mafia out of Los Angeles.

Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing, and Jon Silk of Lin Pictures will co-produce. The latest script has been written by Will Beall.

Gangster Squad will move Fleischer from the comedy genre into a more dramatic role. The director is known for Zombieland and will work on a sequel to the hit film for Columbia, and has another action comedy 30 Minutes or Less that stars Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari.
