Robert Downey Jr. Attached to Warner Bros. Musical
Warner Bros. has just picked up a musical from Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, and have Robert Downey Jr. attached to the project. Yorkey and Kill are the Tony Award and Pulitzer winning team hat composed the musical Next to Normal.
The story on the untitled project follows two Broadway songwriters that find themselves bankrupt when their big musical flops. They take jobs as counselors at the theater camp they had attended as children, and attempt to come up with a plan for a comeback.
Downey has sung in movies before, and released an album in 2004. Kitt and Yorkey knew that Downey had attended theater camp, and tailored the project as something that he would be interested. If Downey does sign on to the project, the part will have him singing and playing piano.
Downey will also produce the film with Susan Downey under their Team Downey banner. Anonymous Content will also produce, and is currently developing a film version of Next to Normal.
