Netflix Is In Talks To Renew Deal With Starz
Netflix is currently in talks with Liberty Media Corp’s Starz movie channel to renew their current deal, but Netflix says that the deal is not essential to its success.
The DVD by mail is a major force in Hollywood, says it is in contact with Starz and thinks that they will come to an agreement, but even without the movie channel, Netflix sees a bright future.
“They have content. We have money, so unless we’re idiots we ought to be able to find some way to make it work over the next couple years,” said Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, referring to Starz.
Hastings expects record DVD shipments in the fourth quarter, but the company will not stop moving forward with their streaming service. The growth of Netflix has the media somewhat concerned – DVD sales are weak, and more and more people are cutting their cable subscriptions and turning to internet video.
Hastings also said that he sees future growth for more television programming like the deal that was announced on Wednesday with Walt Disney Co’s ABC network.
